The Mahone Bay Alternate School High School program exists for students from grades 10-12 who are having difficulties in the regular stream and may be at risk of not graduating. There are a wide range of reasons that students find success within this program. We accept students with a broad range of challenges; including those with anxiety, behavioural issues, victims of bullying, etc.
Our student body makeup is essentially the same as that you would see in the regular stream; however, the smaller teacher-to-student ratio allows students to get more one-on-one attention and the school atmosphere allows a more holistic approach to education with greater focus on social and inter-personal growth.
Students may stay in this program until graduation, or if they choose, return to their original high school to complete their credits for graduation.
Students who have a history of being on Individual Program Plans (IPP) and who are receiving the necessary help in their current school are not eligible for this program.
