Education in a different environment.
Are you looking for a really different public school experience?
The Mahone Bay Alternate School (MBAS) operates with the philosophy that all students, when working under suitable conditions, can meet with success if they are willing. We believe proper sleep, a healthy diet, an active lifestyle and a positive attitude are essential preconditions for a successful education and life.
Statement of Purpose:
MBAS exists for the benefit of those students who have not met with success in the traditional Junior or Senior High School. They are at risk of not completing school. MBAS offers students an opportunity to develop academic and social skills necessary for success in traditional schools and in the community at large. The regular high school curriculum is offered in such a way as to appeal to and offer success to our students.
Academic Information:
All courses offered at MBAS contribute to the fulfillment of the Nova Scotia High School Graduation Certificate. Staff look at each student's previous courses earned (if any) and present courses based on what student's need to graduate. Courses offered one year, or semester, may not be offered the next. The curriculum is the same as that offered in other schools in Nova Scotia; however, presentation and evaluation are both adapted and modified to individual student needs. The courses offered will be those meeting the needs and graduation requirements of those students attending at the time. Special and independent courses may be offered under special conditions for student who wish to take courses IN ADDITION to what is being offered at the time, or if they need specific individual courses to graduate.
